Dundrum held their end of season awards night and with Andrew Bassett getting his four trophies the previous week it was the turn of the second eleven William Quinn pipped Derek Bailey for the player of the year and with both scoring hundreds this season under both captains Gorden Lowey and Steven Maxwell it was well contested with the all rounder Quinn getting his hands on the trophy. The clubman of the year was won by vice captain Alan Gorden who also is the secretary and does countless work behind the scenes as the paperwork is massive task so well done with the mourne men lifting both awards. The young player of the year was 14 year old Peter Calvert who really has a big future ahead of him and belies his age with banter and confidence and im quite sure the clubs employment of coach Manni Fernando was a big help in bringing Monty too the fore and with Noel Maguire retired it wont be too long before Peter will be taking up the spin bowling ( not sure joel will like bowling from the river end). The DUCK trophy was retained by opener and captain Gavin Mcnerlin and the six hit was tied with eight by Joel Maaguire , Richard Shilliday and John Tormey. The clubs employment of a professional is definitly paying off as they will be entering a team for the first time in the under 13 league so a big thank you to all who donated money and too all that made this possible as it will go along way to securing players for Dundrum cricket club. The club is pushing ahead with drainage work and extending the car park and this saturday 1030 will be putting in a concrete wicket for practice so lets see as much help as possible from the players as instead of moaning about poor practice try and help improve all aspects of a very fine progressing junior club that is only one step from trying too break into the premier league something that was only a dream 10 years ago .The AGM is monday 2 november 7 pm |
